Face to Face noodle house @ SS15

I've been patronizing Face to Face ( or 'mian dui mian' in mandarin) lately and I must say that it's one of those shops where you can sit comfortably, chit chat and enjoy simple yummy hawker goodies. Their house specialty would be Pan Mee (as pictured below) followed by something I found rare, Sarawak noodles (or Kam Pua mee as I mentioned in my previous post).

Their house specialty, Pan Mee Soup appears simple but appetizing. The dish can be a little too plain after you have it too frequent like me, then you'll have to resort to the variety of sauces they provide, i.e. chilli sauce. Overall, I wouldn't say that their Pan Mee is something extraordinary, but it's very acceptable, can't go very wrong. Hold on, i said too soon. The pan mee can only go wrong if you order your noodles to be 'pinched'. They don't actually pinch (or 'mit' in chinese) your noodles, they still have the noodle dough rolled flat and sliced into squares, which totally is the opposite of 'pinching'. The traditional 'pinched' noodles comes in all sorts of irregular sizes and inconsistent thickness, those are what makes 'pinched' pan mee Real! The whole idea of ordering 'pinched' pan mee is so some of us can pick those noodle pieces up with more ease, and not to mention, fun =) So, if you're heading to Face to Face, just avoid the 'pinched' noodles then I can assure you're safe.
I once had another Pan Mee at some hawker place where they put in Choy Sum, CHOY SUM!! now that's Pan Mee Really Gone WRONG.

their Sarawak Noodles were very nice during my first few visits. It had a very similar flavour to the ones I ate in Sibu but the only thing lacking was the texture of the noodles. It was then the closest thing to Kam Pua mee that I could find. Lately, this noodle have been lacking in flavour and taste somewhat like mamee monster with pepper. This could probably be due to my too-frequent visits in a short period of time. The meat ball in the noodles is just out of place, it's too sweet and not necessary as they already serve char siew.

I was quite surprised when I ordered Lo Han Guo during my first visit. I didn't expect them to serve the drink in a bowl, topped with shaved ice. It was however, a delightful surprise. It's like eating dessert. The amount of shaved ice was always not enough as they melt too fast in the warm drink, leaving it nor hot nor cold. We often ask for extra ice so it becomes a blended ice drink, nice =) Here comes the negative part, they try to add 'value' to the drink by putting in things like agar agar pieces and large sago, which in my opinion ruins the drink (except for the shredded cincau). It then became a habit for us to just order them without the extra 'jellies'. They're aren't stingy with their longan pieces so it's really yummy, being able to chew on something while you sip sip.

New Moon

I was out today, and finally watched New Moon. I needed to check out what all the hype was about. Ok, so maybe I did actually want to watch it too.

At TGV pyramid, they screened the movie at the bigger than usual theatre (theatre 4). It was definitely to cater to the larger crowd. The theatre was full!

And so after being bombarded with criticisms about the movie's cheesiness (by Grace), I was well prepared to face those milk! I mean.. cheesiness.

I've gotta say the most 'makes-me-wana-whack-myself-in-the-forehead' would be the scene where it was Bella's birthday and she was outside her house with Edward. I find the part she asks him to kiss her very amusing. It was so predictable as that part of the scene was shown in trailers.

And you would think the crowd will go wild when Jacob takes off his shirt and turns into a werewolf to save Bella. Celine's verdict: the crowd went crazy the minute Jacob goes on screen. He then still had his long hair, still decently dressed, and no revealing of abs and triceps. There was still a slight 'Wooo' when Jacob took off his shirt, of course. But it was nothing compared when Jacob first appeared on screen. hey, how come Edward didn't get any reactions from the audience when he went on screen?

but I've gotta say, the cheesiest part would be the ending when Edward proposes to Bella. Oh come on! I could already sense that coming! (and no, I didn't read the book!) The crowd was clapping like crazy when they saw the scene! Right after that scene, the credit was shown and the crowd went 'Awwww...' They wanted more, it was just too much suspense. A marriage proposal and then End. That ought to get people going 'Aww..' but not me! I didn't clap either. Crazy!

Overall, I think it was worth RM8.

warehouse disappointments

I told myself never to go for warehouses sales again after being disappointed again and again.

but I just couldn't help but have to make my way to the Coach warehouse sales today.

it starts at 9am. and I got there at 8.55am.
finding a carpark was horrible! i managed to squeeze my car into a narrow gap between two cars but found myself trapped in my own car. I could have climbed out of my windows but. yeah, not a good idea.

so the parking fella told me to park at the other corner, not proper at all. The land was uneven and it was at a corner of a junction, plus there was a hydrant right in front. Nevertheless, I paid rm5 for it and made my way into Armada Hotel.

you should have seen the crowd waiting for the lift at the hotel lobby. I think Armada's carpark and lobby has never been so crowded before, at least not because people are in a rush for a buffet that they are having or something.

So I decided to take the staircase. It was just a few minutes after 9am then. I was making my way up to 3rd floor when I see people walking down already. Strange, but I continued heading upwards.

Phew! you should have seen the people jostling into the hall on level 3. Ladies were everywhere! and people are already starting to push their way out, telling the crowd:

"it's all sold out!"

"there's no point for you guys to continue waiting"

"there was only 350 bags on sale"

"they are going to announce to the people soon"

sheesh. I was back in my car before 9.15am! so I ended up heading to carrefour to look for muffin trays. Are muffin trays such a rare thing? How come I can't find them in Carrefour or Jusco? The ones available at Carrefour are only the disposable ones!

so again, I headed home empty handed and searched for baking supplies outlet that I can try my luck at.

Jap @ Zen

Work isn't actually that bad, it's just that it can get very boring at times. A typical situation would be as below:

Celine: Is that anything for me to do?
Staff 1: Not at the moment (with a smile)

Celine: Ada apa-apa kerja perlu buat tak?
Staff 2: Tak ade la (with a smile)

People at work are so sweet la.

and so I spent plenty of time logging into RMIT enrollment again and again at work, waiting for my one final subject result to be uploaded. It turned out that I didn't do too bad this semester. Better that I expected. Well, to be precise, I didn't expect anything much but I just wanted to pass everything. I'm pretty happy with what I've got. =)

and of course.. no Celine's blog is complete without the mentioning of food. *Tada!*
today, I went to.. *drums roll*

Zen @ Sunway Pyramid

Oh, it's such a fab place. I wowed me the minute I stepped into the restaurant. The ambience was truly calming and the waiters were just so helpful. Tea cup was always full and they'd make sure the food served was up to customer's expectation. How did we end up in Zen? Zanmai next door had a long que, as usual. So I casually suggested that we try Zen. I must say it's one of the best suggestions I've made. Pricing wise, Zen may be on the higher side, but you can be assure of their food quality (a tiny exception for the slightly overripe tomatoes in my salad) and prompt service. The waiter informed us about their Sunday buffet brunch at RM55++ per head. I would say it's a good price considering that my Stamina Roll already cost RM28. Guess who's having Jap buffet this Sunday :D

Stamina Roll - Avocado and Egg roll topped with whole grilled Unagi (I was attracted to this dish for the Unagi part, not so much with its name)

California and Soft Shell Crab Temakis - I won't there's much different from the ones served at Zanmai apart from it's doubled price. I guess there's probably more ingredients..

I just have to say that I've added Zen into my favorites list :D
