Jin Xuan Hong Kong Dim Sum a.. Disappointment!

ahh yes.. the many-times-postponed and much-awaited visit to Jin Xuan Hong Kong in Damasara Jaya was.. well, a little disappointing sad to say.

these are the among the few dim sum dishes that we ordered

Service was ok and we were seated at a table of our choice quite immediately. It was about 10.30am but it wasn't as crowded as I've expected it to be. I've read reviews about it claiming that you have to que up and get a waiting number at times. I guess we were just late for breakfast and too early for lunch?

The food served were all slightly cold. The egg yolk custard bun that I ordered, it felt as if the chef was in a hurry to get them served. Hence, the not-hot-enough filling. Flavour was there but certain food are just meant to be taken cold.

the Siew Mai however, was really really nice. The texture was just so soft, juicy and slightly elastic. Definitely one of the better Siew Mais that I've tasted so far.

The glutinous rice was tasty but Grace thinks that it was overly steamed. The rice was too damp and it became so difficult to pick up with chopsticks.

which results..
in another order for rice! this lap cheong rice was served barely warm and overly oily. Had to drink lots of hot chinese tea. It helps to clear the fats, so I heard.

At the moment, I don't think that I'll be coming back again as it is quite far from where I'm living. The food quality was definitely there but certain improvements have to be made. For example, serving the dim sum really Hot!

Dim Sum anyone?

I'm heading to Jin Xuan Hong Kong Dim Sum in Damansara Jaya tomorrow morning! It was recommended by my uncle who also introduced me to William's Corner, the really yummy Italian Mamak that I've written about. And while looking up for Jin Xuan's address for directions, look what I've found! A very deliciously-written review on that restaurant! I hope I can write like that one day. Behold everyone, for I will slowly transform this half dead blog into something as entertaining as that! Wait up for my food photos soon! =D

flat tyre & good food

I had a punctured tyre today and that led to 1 brother walking home and a Hy and a Ky to be late for work.

While driving, I heard an unusual noise coming from the back of my car. I switched the radio off. And paid attention, hoping the noise came from the music playing. But no, I can still hear the unusual noise. I then stopped the car to the side of the road. Hopped out of driver's seat and walked to the back of the car. There lies a miserable looking flat tyre. Never have I seen a more sad looking part of my car.

And so Hy called up some friends to see where they are and whether they could help. They asked if I had a car jack. I popped the hood to check and told him, "nope". So I decided to walked to the nearby car repair shop to borrow a car jack. Hy didn't think the people there would borrow us one but they did. And it didn't cost us a thing!

Hy then had to drag the car jack across the road and towards my car. Which gave his friends enough time to make their way over to lend me a hand. Awesome, it was like what you see in cartoons, help appear instantly as you hang up the phone. And so they helped swap the punctured tyre with the spare one. They showed me the stupid culprit, a nail that caused the damage. I looked at where they placed the car jack and watch how they changed the tyre. When all is done and Ky had dragged the carjack back to be returned, I decided to take the car to SS19 to get the typre fixed. Hy & Ky decided to wait for the car to be fixed first before they get back to work, a which decision that realized one of my wants to feast on the famous SS19 Pan Mee (in the area where SJKC Lick Hung is, opposite Yamaha/Pathlab. Its located at the last shop of the first shoplot you see on your left as you enter that part of SS19). It was only a 2 minutes walk from the workshop.

The pan mee was really yummy. The noodle texture was soft & slightly chewy, the kind of texture that makes my teeth so happy, it makes me smile. Hahaha, it was really nice la. The flavour of the soup is similar to the ones at Face to Face but the noodle texture and shape will be the one that will bring me back to this place again. =) Plus, the anchovies are crispy. Mm mm. It seems that this place is so popular, you'll be expected to wait up to 1 hour for your pan mee, this sounds so much like the famous pork noodle in SS15. Even tough it wasn't that pack when Hy, Ky and I got there, we still had to take a number. Your order will be taken when it is your turn. While waiting, patrons would order either fresh coconut or pure sugar cane water. Ky says that their sugar cane water is special because they don't add any water unlike other restaurants. I drank up so much that I was unable to finish my long awaited pan mee. Ended up rationing some to the two.

The help that Jack, Hj & Kit gave showed me how wonderful friends they were to Hy & Ky. Always there to help. They helped changed my car tyre & even charged me less for the repair. I felt grateful that Hy & Ky was in the car with me at that time as I wouldn't have known how to deal with a punctured tyre on my own. Thank you everyone for saving my day! =)

more cupcakes

I made more cupcakes today, this time with frosting! I have to say, decorating those cupcakes was most fun. I should have divided the butter cream frosting into few parts - to make different coloured frosting. The consistency of the buttercream frosting was somewhat too watery and could not hold its molded shape. The cupcakes (photos below) may not look very appetizing but hey, it's my first time frosting. =) I'm looking forward in producing a better frosting and more colourful cupcakes soon! woohoo!

one of the prettiest cupcake

cel. too nice to eat la.
