As you walk into Auction Room, you'll find patrons reading books, chatting over coffee, giving you much of that Sunday morning vibe. It was a recommendation of a friend to have brunch here as Auction Room is known for their quirky menu. Plus, they're in the list of top 10 brunch places on Urbanspoon.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div></span><div style="text-align: justify;">Unfortunately, I'm not able to provide much on the names of the dishes, as they were a little lengthy. However, I must say that despite the size of the dishes, they were rather filling (probably because my 'shady deal' required some flat-bread dipping motions, which consumed time). However, I've came to realise that I'm more of a typical big breakfast person as I found the food a little more on the fancy side (I took out the cheese and olives from my dish) but then again, it's my words against the many people that queued up for a seat as it approached lunch time.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Would definitely still come back here for the coffee and great ambience ;)</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="-webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; This place is a little ouch ouch on the pocket but darn, its GOOD food! Make sure you book in advance, I made a booking about four days before and had to take on the only dining time option that they offered.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">If you haven't heard of Nobu, the restaurant is named after Nobu Matsuhisa, the owner and executive chef, whom has grabbed numerous awards including 'One of the 11 Most Influential Chefs of the Decade' by Madrid Fusion in 2009. I haven't heard of Nobu if it wasn't located at Crowns, one of the most popular landmark in Melbourne. But I've later noticed Nobu cookery books in stores. Nobu serves delicate food that are of Japanese and Peruvian fusion. If you love Japanese food, wait till you try Nobu!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">There were 5 of us that night and we each picked one dish to share (excluding desserts of course, they aren't to share!) as most of us weren't sure what to order. Amazing stuff!<div>It uses low-fat custard as the base, compared to the traditional heavy cream. So you know it's almost guilt-free. I've had two servings of it already today, it's so good!</div><div>The texture is so light, and it's not too sweet. Great for those who fancy dark chocolates. If you are, welcome to my club! XD</div><div>I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I did! I can't wait to make more!</div>Celine Choohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05910158821546029799noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-565389757798806421.post-70282136333219287572010-10-18T03:39:00.000-07:002010-10-18T05:18:38.285-07:00Vanilla Cupcakes with Chocolate Frosting<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJzFSYJV8oT0tuTnhOCiBf5bkkby5uNa17czp1sTFignjMHrB_TXmJY-mxlbMIusgIynsY8BHzSNtC5C1I0sAoYxwtnQQmx18Kczkmq8Pd4J8u_msGrn6hH-K6ZUds9rg8bc4uF7j4MtA/s1600/IMG_0820.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJzFSYJV8oT0tuTnhOCiBf5bkkby5uNa17czp1sTFignjMHrB_TXmJY-mxlbMIusgIynsY8BHzSNtC5C1I0sAoYxwtnQQmx18Kczkmq8Pd4J8u_msGrn6hH-K6ZUds9rg8bc4uF7j4MtA/s400/IMG_0820.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5529334336688509874" /></a><br />I baked a batch of cupcakes for a potluck dinner. The recipe was taken from The Australian Women's Weekly <i>Cook</i>.<div><br /></div><div>To soften the butter, I suggest walking to your supermarket and purchase the butter, when you're home, it'll be already nice and soft! as for the eggs, take them out of the fridge before leaving for the supermarket, I've read somewhere that room temperature eggs are best for cakes. Also, I didn't have caster sugar in my pantry, but only white sugar, which is not as fine as the caster. I just gave the batter a good mix to make sure all the sugar has been dissolved.</div><div><br /></div><div>The vanilla cakes is so simple yet delicious with a wonderful egg aroma! good enough to eat it on its own. I thought the butter cream wasn't chocolatey enough, so I added in more cocoa but cut down on sugar. The cream turned out, well.. not so creamy but still very flavourful.</div><div><br /></div><div>Don't freak out if you're butter cream hardens after a day or two, just pop them in the microwave for 8 seconds, and they'll be as good as being just out of the oven! ;) <div><br /></div><div>enjoy!<br /><div><br /></div><div>Makes 24 cupcakes</div><div><br /></div><div><!--StartFragment--> <p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination:none;mso-layout-grid-align:none; text-autospace:none"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;">For the cake, you'll need:<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination:none;mso-layout-grid-align:none; text-autospace:none"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;">125g butter, softened<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination:none;mso-layout-grid-align:none; text-autospace:none"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;">1 tsp vanilla essence<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination:none;mso-layout-grid-align:none; text-autospace:none"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;">2/3 cup (150g) caster sugar<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination:none;mso-layout-grid-align:none; text-autospace:none"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;">3 eggs<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination:none;mso-layout-grid-align:none; text-autospace:none"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;">1 1/2 (225g) cups self raising flour<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination:none;mso-layout-grid-align:none; text-autospace:none"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;">1/4 cup milk<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination:none;mso-layout-grid-align:none; text-autospace:none"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;"><br /></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination:none;mso-layout-grid-align:none; text-autospace:none"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination:none;mso-layout-grid-align:none; text-autospace:none"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;">Chocolate Butter Cream:<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-pagination:none;mso-layout-grid-align:none; text-autospace:none"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;">125g butter, softened<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;">1 tsp vanilla essence<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;">1 ½ (240g) cups icing sugar<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;">2 tbspn milk<o:p></o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;">1 tbspn cocoa powder<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;"><br /></span></p> <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-mso-ansi-language:EN-US;font-family:Georgia;font-size:16.0pt;"><o:p> </o:p></span></p> <p class="MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst" style="text-indent:-18.0pt;mso-list:l1 level1 lfo1"><span lang="EN-AU" style="mso-bidi-mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-latin;font-family:Cambria;"><span style="mso-list:Ignore">1.<span style="font:7.0pt "Times New Roman""> </span></span></span><span lang="EN-AU">Preheat oven to 180</span><span lang="EN-AU" style="mso-ascii-font-family:Cambria;mso-hansi-font-family:Cambria;">˚C or 160˚C fan-forced. So what's new?</div><div><br /></div><div>The trip back to Malaysia this time round was particularly more enjoyable despite being only a month and a half.</div><div><br /></div><div>Kit and Kay Lee was back for holidays from Canada. Mel was back from Korea. So it was pretty good being able to meet up with them after such a long time as most of us were scattered all over the world after college. And of course friends from Melbourne were also back in Malaysia, so we all had quite a jolly good time. I also manage to meet friends from high school and primary school during small gatherings, which was really great.</div><div><br /></div><div>Also food, nothing much new but I really like Murni Discovery at Taipan. I'd describe it as mamak with an innovative twist =) simply love the thai mee siam, maggi goreng and mee raja there! Apart from that, I also finally gotten a taste of Korean BBQ at Dao Rae, Kepong. I never thought I'd actually like Bib Bim Bab but that restaurant serves really yummy ones!</div><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivhDmoYNB501jnwPQBi48cOrGJKTDr5KLMUVbRCEh4aK6Pv9zBojZ4l5-AT0n43pYRw0Saty6BALR6EXo2yhl5uz8tV9N4LCnpwa1xkJ_b4UGAZnlLzebr6JVwwbHXndVJjCFOy2Kff9s/s400/IMG_0552.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5497351123634088882" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 400px; height: 300px; " /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;">Korean Dinner, Bib Bim Bab on right</div><div><br /></div><div>I also manage to go to Universal Studios Singapore and stay at the most luxurious hotel (although just the most basic room) at Resort World! I'm telling you, that room had 3 LCD TVs, one embedded into the bathroom mirror, one in the bedroom and one more in the living area. Plus, they have a Nespresso coffee machine. Is that common? cause I only knew of Nespresso when I came to Australia. And, the room has a, wait for it.. Steam Bath in the shower!!! how wicked is that?! pure luxury.</div><div><br /></div><div><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 238); -webkit-text-decorations-in-effect: underline; "><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJMRX_NOoiloUN619wlg8zY7DQPXR2kaIvMfGaZftjKfNCihSFOvYOTs56tf4ZL1Ln_QgBZgWTjL86Io56CdIv-l8iV-3vg9G-YiSL90HzDIu_xSenEdHQQNJ7Pzqc__Km_0Q0bF8cyig/s400/IMG_0525.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5497351103284002610" style="display: block; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: auto; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px; " /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;">the luxurious bath tub in the hotel bathroom</div><div><br /></div><div>So Sem 2 has just begun. I sense a pretty hectic semester ahead but I'm sure everything will be just alright =) the cold weather is really getting into me. I refuse to get out of bed in the mornings as it is warm under the sheets. And don't get me started on the water heater. it has a permanent PMS. I hate washing my hands too (but I do!) because its an icy cold water dispenser. I think I'd rather have Malaysia's hot weather. That way, I'll just take more baths, isn't it?</div><div><br /></div><div>Alright, I think I better get back in doing some work now. I'm trying to be a better student this semester by getting things done in advance. Wish me luck!</div>Celine Choohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05910158821546029799noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-565389757798806421.post-65518511645929076342010-05-22T06:32:00.000-07:002010-05-22T06:34:26.398-07:00weeee..weee... celine is getting a nintendo wii :) a black one. will pick that sexy thing up on the 4th!<div><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div></div>Celine Choohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05910158821546029799noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-565389757798806421.post-63305246574843124342010-05-07T07:50:00.000-07:002010-05-07T23:46:19.121-07:00i'm the happiest girl today<div style="text-align: left;">Today was an extraordinary day :)</div><div><br /></div><div>1. I had dinner on a <b><a href="http://www.tramrestaurant.com.au/">Colonial Tram Restaurant</a></b>.</div><div><i>how awesome is that? having your meal while the waiters walk back and forth the narrow pathways to serve you your meal in a dimly lit colonial decorated tram. it was a whole different dining experience. service was good. food was good. and the tram takes you around, giving you a view of melbourne while you enjoy fine dining. aunty m and I got 1 of each of the main course and dessert that was served for the day. we had a grilled chicken on sweet potato mash and baby spinach with macadamia pesto sauce (it was surprisingly SO good! the toasted macadamia just added the umphh!) and a eye fillet beef with vegetables and wild mushroom jus (i haven't tasted such tenderrr.. beef!). and if you're a drinker, better still! wines are free flow. they also serve other liquors. I had all together 4 types of drinks tonight. A sparkling wine to start, a lemon squash, white wine and hot tea :) To anyone who's planning to bring a special someone for a treat, colonial tram restaurant is a perfect idea. it's just such a romantic venue! Seated in front of us was this couple who were celebrating their wedding anniversary. and next to us, a small group celebrating a friend's birthday. For that split second, we'd be having eye contact. I was at the gym early today and saw this familiar girl whom I thought was really slim. Not overly skinny, but just nice. Did I mention she was tall and pretty too?</div><div><br /></div><div>but she had red highlights, slightly gothic dressing and a huge tattoo. well, I knew bout her dressing and her tattoo because I bumped into her in the dressing room. I'm not stalking her, I swear.</div><div><br /></div><div>I wanted to at least say hi, or compliment on how fit she was, or just simply tell her that I'm not freaky and I don't mean to stare at her. but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.</div><div><br /></div><div>I'll try saying hi the next time, just to get rid of that staring awkwardness. And I know how hard she works in order to keep me comfortable and well-fed over here.</div><div><br /></div><div>I often think about what would it be like in the future. Will I marry someone who would love me all my life? Will I obtain a successful career and make enough money?</div><div><br /></div><div>Just yesterday, I lost my wallet. And in my wallet, I had at least $100 in cash. I had to phone my dear mum to make necessary card cancellations. And the worst of all, I lost my Msian IC and license. </div><div><br /></div><div>I feel the need to work and earn back the money that was stolen. I feel that I owe my mum for the lost money. but of course, money isn't the only thing from my mother that I'm grateful for. Because of her, I am who I am today.</div><div><br /></div><div>I do hope I'll earn a decent living in the future so I can spend on my mum =) take her out for nice meals, buy her nice clothes or take her on a holiday just like what she does for me. </div><div><br /></div><div>She insist that I don't have to work while studying if its for the sake of money as she wants me to have an enjoyable student life. It reminds me of Rose Garden in Melbourne. Ahh yes, the cramp place where people would que up patiently for a table meal times and are seated chair against chair. And then people like me will pay about $8+ (about RM24!!) for this dish. Seriously you people in Malaysia should feel so fortunate. I feel as if I'm in a Food Heaven whenever I'm back in Msia. <div><br /></div><div>Sadly, this Malaysia holiday is coming to an end. Once again, I would have to say my goodbyes and hopefully I'll see my favourite people again soon. but sometimes to make myself feel better, I think of the other ones that I have in Melbourne (yes, yes, this includes jia shen and na)</div><div><br /></div><div>Foo Yoong Egg also reminds me of the time when Hang was on holiday in Melb. She was just happy enough to eat the ones at A1 when I insisted that she could have tasted the better one at Rose Garden. Even though Foo Yoong Egg Rice is clearly a fancy looking omelette on rice, you'd be amaze how good it taste. This is of course thanks to the amount of oil they use in order to fry this absolutely yummy treat. </div><div><br /></div><div>I would say that I started liking Foo Yoong Egg when I was back in High School where I would gather a few friends and have simple food at this cafe nearby. Inclusive in its set lunch was this Foo Yoong Egg. Ah! that's when I fell in love in it. No doubt it was just fried egg with a certain few prawns, slivered onions, etc. but it was just so tasty.</div><div><br /></div><div>Ah, all this memories are making me hungry. I'm definitely heading back for more Foo Yoong!</div>Celine Choohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05910158821546029799noreply@blogger.com0
