Sofia on a monday afternoon

hi, I just got back from Sofia.

ok, so I was in Aunty M's car on the way back from city.
she was telling me about how people at her workplace were having pizza and she couldn't help it but to have 1 piece as well.

and the magical statement reveals itself.

Aunty M: now I really feel like having Sofia.

uh oh..

Aunty M: do you feel like having Sofia?

BIG Uh Oh!

Me: I don't mind.

Aunty M then quickly turn out the freeway towards Chandler Hwy. and towards Camberwell.

moments later..

Me: Since we're going to Sofia, shall we have gelati?
(Aunty M and I have always talked about going to Sofia, just the two of us, and finish the gelati on our own. FYI for those who don't know, their gelati serving size is Humongous. should serve to about 4 people.)

Aunty M: eh! good idea! let's have gelati!

Moments later at the Sofia..

after ordering a large Super Special pizza (with the whole lot), I got off the table to kepo at the cakes.
the varieties were a little sad as there were only small remaining of each flavour.

When I got back to the table, a waiter walks up to us and said..

Waiter: I see that you want a cake?

Aunty M's (cake lover) eyes widen.

Aunty M: Which cake is nice?

Waiter: You.

haha..

Waiter: We have mars bar, berry cheesecake, chocolate mint...

Aunty M: I love all of them.

Waiter: You can't have all of them. or else *hits his own bum* you'll get fat. but one piece won't hurt.

Aunty M: then which cake is the most popular?

Waiter: Tiramisu.

Aunty M: but we also plan to have gelati.

after no being able to make a decision.. the waiter leaves with frustration, saying: "I'll take care of it."

I ask Aunty M, "what does he mean by 'I'll take care of it?'"

Another waiter returns with Tiramisu.

ah, I see, so he gives us the most popular cake.

but that's not it!

not too long later, the waiter returns again with gelati.

I abandoned the cake immediately. =)

The large pizza arrives..

both of us can't decide whether to continue eating the gelati before it melts, or jump to having hot pizza.

Aunty M drawn on a conclusion that the gelati won't melt that fast. and so the ladies eat the pizza.

I've never had a pizza with so many types of topping before. there were ham, salami, capsicum, mushroom, olives, pineapple and of course cheese.

however, being me, I still love my simple Hawaiian Chicken =)

and after the ladies had 2 slices of pizza each, we continued with our dessert.
I finished all available flavours of gelati (chocolate, orange, banana, lemon, strawberry) but left a generous amount of Choc chips Mint. uh.

I quite enjoyed the Tiramisu because there were parts of the cake that were coffee flavoured (intense flavour, not sweet), and the base is chocolate cake. I however didn't like the creamy topping (cheese)

I can't tell you how full I am by this stage (pizza, gelati, cake, and a lot of water)

We packed the remaining Super Special pizza and ordered an additional large Meat Lover pizza and one Spaghetti Marinara for uncle.

when we picked up uncle..

Uncle: I smell food.
Aunty M & I: hahahahhaa..

Uncle: didn't you guys go to gym?
Aunty M & I: (chuckles) no..

and so, the ladies are happy because they had Sofia on a Monday noon when on every other Monday, they are hard at work at the gym.

the uncle should be quite happy too, the ladies packed his favourite spaghetti.

thai food.

I think this blog is turning into a food blog..

I was planning on talking about how yummy my thai dinner last night was.
We had dinner at Ying Thai 2. I wonder why they call it '2'. Is this the second branch or something? Anyway, some wise guy said, "Oh, the '2' makes the shop name more 'attractive'."

very attractive indeed. coughs.

I'm so sorry that there are no photos of the yummy dinner I had. I am hoping instead to paint a visual description of the food with my words instead.

The tom yam soup was a 'wow'. The first sip gave me cheeks that cram sensation, you know how you have something sour suddenly and your cheeks are just in total shock? but it's a really good thing, the soup was both spicy and sour. I drank it down to the last chili seeds. Friends said they were "very appetizing." =) I agree.

The stir fried beef in chili paste was alright too. I won't say fantastic but it was pretty nice. The bamboo shoots in the dish however smelt a little funny. At the end of the meal, what's left in the dish were just many strips of bamboo shoots and remaining sauce. Goes well with rice.

We had thai green curry too. Ugh, I didn't like it. It was well, green, but too rich in coconut milk to my preference. Na liked it though, she ate the chicken pieces, drank the curry down, and I picked on the carrots. I still prefer traditional malay curries =)

alright, I'm off to yum cha soon. =D
hoho! I've been wanting to have dim sum for awhile now!

no food

I'm so proud of myself.

I've been walking in and out of supermarkets empty handedly.
no food.
that's right.

no food.

remarkable isn't it? :)

there isn't much that interest me anymore.
plus, I don't see Peter's smooth & creamy chocolate ice cream anymore.
why did they stop producing it?
there's only some choc caramel, choc vanilla and all that sorts.
uh.

Italian

Guess who had Italian last fortnight, last week and tonight? =)

well, last fortnight I had Italian with Hang, Jia Shen and Shereena on Lygon St.

Last week on Saturday I had Italian Again with Jia Shen and Shereena on Lygon St.

and for both occasions, we would all compare and think back about Sofia whenever the waiter serves us our dishes. For one, the food portion is a major difference. Second, the flavour.

So we decided, if we're ever going for Italian again, we'd go to Sofia.
(Shereena and Jia Shen had Italian on Lygon Again today! XD let me laugh. hahahahahha)

and I went to Sofia today :p

I'm really getting a hang of this creamy Italian food. I remember the previous meals at Sofia being just so-so. I'm proud to say that I really enjoyed the Avocado Fetuccine & Chicken and Mushroom Risotto tonight =)

For those who don't know Sofia, it's this Italian restaurant in Camberwell that serves huge portions. They are also generous with their ingredients. Watching them prepare the pizza is a fun thing to do as you watch them pile up on the ingredients, handful and handful of cheese.. meat.. mushroom.. Pasta Mista (pasta for two) can feed 4-5 average persons. They may have branches all over Melbourne but the one at Camberwell is still the best.

I love food.

there's only 2 more weeks of uni left till the end of term.

then, another 2 weeks of assignments-completing from home.
AND then, slurp slurp.. good ol' Malaysian food!

I just can't wait.

Friends (you know who you are) have actually told me that my facial expression or mood changes when I'm eating or when the conversation subject was about food. I'm also made to believe that my expressions make meals somewhat more appetizing. It seems that I often use the phrase, "wah, very nice ah!" I'd laugh with a slight embarrassment when being told of the subconscious me.

I've also been told that my eyes "light up" when talking about food. I've got so much passion about food that I've been persuaded to pursue food journalism (or what they call it). Come to think of it, I've not actually come across food criticism that catches my attention. Perhaps I could do like a food TV programme like 'jalan-jalan cari makan', then wherever I've tried and approved, would receive some sort of acknowledgement that tells people, "Celine has tried this, you should try it too!" wah, how awesome would that be?!

From my own experiences, such TV program (typically the Taiwanese ones) hosts appear healthy and slim. They travel all over, constantly tasting great food. How do they keep fit man? If something is so good, I wouldn't have the willpower not to finish it lo. Come to think of it, I barely have any willpower when it comes to food. Let's say Celine goes to buffet and after an hour and half, she complains that she's so full, so bloated and can't eat anymore. One hour later, Bang! Eat again. Goodness, it's not that I'm hungry, it's just the "feel" of wanting to eat. Now, such situations are particularly more frequent in Australia.

If you see the supermarkets here, you'll fall in love. I know I did. Supermarkets are everywhere! There are itself 2 supermarkets located 5mins away from my uni. I've got itchy hands too, go supermarket=buy something. A perfect example would be today. Bought 2 boxes of crackers as they were on sale. Arnott's vita weat, 2 for $4.50. Bad move la, I munching those crackers the minute I left the supermarket, in class, after class, before gym, after dinner..
